"FridgeFood" is a powerful app that helps users reduce food waste and save money on groceries.
With its unique recipe-matching algorithm, the app recommends delicious recipes that can be made using ingredients already on hand.
By providing a fun and easy way to use up leftovers and forgotten foods, "FridgeFood" encourages sustainable food practices and promotes healthier eating habits.
When a user downloads the app for the first time, they will have an instructed animated video that will demonstrate and explain how to use the app and its benefits.
In case the user wishes to skip the video, they will get a step-by-step instruction. First-time users will also have tool tips and animations for every screen they see for the first time explaining how to use each feature.
Users start by selecting dietary preferences such as "Vegetarian" or "Vegan", which tailor the app's recipe suggestions to individual needs.
After entering available ingredients through voice or text, they can access suitable recipes. The app allows users to filter recipes by meal type and required effort and provides instructional videos to ease the cooking process.
Upon selecting a recipe, users receive both visual and written cooking guides, streamlining the preparation process. The user-friendly design ensures an uncomplicated and enjoyable experience from selection to preparation.
Finally, users can rate recipes and save them as favorites for future reference, although this step is optional, enhancing the app’s personalized and convenient user experience.
Conveying user testing in different stages led me to think about simplifying user experience and considering different approaches to existing features.
For example, in most recipe apps, the user is asked to choose ingredients from a list, so I offered a list as well. After testing with 10 users, I found that it took an average of 30 seconds for users to find a specific ingredient in their fridge, which was too long for a seamless user experience.
So I thought that this process could be faster and easier if the user takes a picture of their fridge. But once again, user testing showed that taking an image of the fridge won't provide a clear view of a specific ingredient due to the use of containers and storage boxes.
So I came up with a voice recognition solution (making sure that it would be technically possible).
But even though this solution gave an easy result, it made some users feel uncomfortable allowing the app to use the recording system. For that, I offered an additional manual entrance of their ingredients.
Overall, FridgeFood is a great solution for anyone who wants to reduce waste and get creative with their ingredients. Our app provides a simple and efficient way to find recipes based on the ingredients you already have at home, saving you time and money in the process.
With its user-friendly interface and unique recipes, FridgeFood is perfect for anyone looking to try something new in the kitchen. Whether you're a vegetarian, vegan, or just looking for a way to use up leftovers, our app has something for everyone.
